Al Ahli show interest in Italian coach Lippi

Dubai: After a massive coup with the signing of Italian World Cup captain Fabio Cannavaro last week, former UAE league champions Al Ahli have admitted intentions of having Marcello Lippi as their future coach for next season.
An official from the club admitted to Gulf News that preliminary talks between the Italian national team coach and Al Ahli have already started, and a final decision could be possible once the 62-year-old ends his World Cup duties in South Africa.
After last week's signing of Cannavaro, Italian publication La Gazzetta dello Sport yesterday reported that Al Ahli were contemplating an offer of a four-year contract worth 4 million euros (Dh17.65 million) per season to the Italian team coach in addition to other bonuses.
"There is no confirmation on this and we are unclear about things at the moment. Hopefully, there will be some more information on this in the next few days," the club source told Gulf News on condition of anonymity.
To further boost their chances, Al Ahli under new chairman — Abdullah Al Naboudah — are reportedly also keen on snatching Italian internationals Gennaro Gattuso and Vincenzo Iaquinta, and Juventus skipper Alessandro del Piero.
