FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup 2010 - Germany Are Champions
Host and favorites Germany lived up to expectations when they beat underdogs Nigeria 2-0 to win the FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup 2010 trophy. It was their second champions medal after winning it in Thailand 6 years ago.
Alexandra Popp scored her 10th goal of the tournament in the 8th minute to give Germany the lead. The Falconets controlled most of the possession but were unable to find the equaliser, and Kim Kulig put the match beyond reach with germany's second goal in the 92nd minute.
Credit to the west Africans though for keeping the German high-scoring machine at bay for most of the match. Their inability to convert their chances let them down. It was a great showing though for an African team has not made it to the final before this.
Alexandra Popp wins the Golden Boot award for being the top scorer of the tournament with ten goals to her credit.
Final score, Germany 2 - Nigeria 0.
