The people of Nainanvalappu, a small colony not far from the coast in Kozhikode, a district in north Kerala, woke up one morning in 2010 to discover that a billboard they had erected featuring Brazilian football stars lay in tatters. This was an act of evil, to put it mildly, for it had happened smack in the middle of the football World Cup. The outraged fans complained to the city police commissioner.
